Katie Smith - 2008 WNBA Finals MVP

Katie Smith had an outstanding series leading the Shock to their 3rd WNBA Championship in 6 years.

She was the Shock’s leading scorer in every game and played nearly every minute of the 3 game series.

“I congratulate Katie Smith,” said Laimbeer. “I don’t give her all the credit that she deserves throughout the course of the year, and she really showed it.

“Katie decided that I’m going to make my mark on this series and she did.”

During game 1 in San Antonio, Smith hit a playoff career high 25 points and came back in game 2 with 22 points. Leading the Shock to a 2-0 lead over the Silver Stars, a crowd of fans were waiting back home for game 3 that could possibly be a sweep.

“There’s no more deserving MVP; that was a no brainer,” said Taj McWilliams-Franklin. “If I look at all three games and had to choose a MVP, I would say Katie Smith, Katie Smith, Katie Smith. There was no contest.”

Detroit Shock’s Taj McWilliams-Franklin holds the championship trophy after defeating San Antonio Silver Stars in the WNBA Finals basketball game on Sunday.

Without Taj, would they have made it to the finals or a championship? Smith says no.

“If we don’t have Taj, I don’t think we’re here,” says Smith after the Championship win on Sunday

In game 3 alone, Taj put up 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Let alone filling the big shoes of Cheryl Ford. It’s clear what Washington had lost and what Detroit had gained.
